  4. This archive contains the limited version of Mathomatic, the algebraic
  5. manipulator.  A tutorial program is included which contains some interesting
  6. information and a demonstration section is included at the end.
  7.  
  8. The limited version of Mathomatic has been incorporated into the tutorial
  9. program to eliminate duplicated code.  This reduced the size of this archive
  10. by 50%.  The limited version is now more powerful than any previous limited
  11. versions and is now fully functional.

  13. This archive may be freely distributed as long as none of the files inside
  14. are modified or missing.

  16. The files that should be in the archive are:

  18. ADV.TXT        Advertisement and description of Mathomatic.
  19. AMTUTOR.EXE    The Mathomatic tutorial, demo, and limited program.
  20. GRAPH.EXE    The Mathomatic Graph program (Requires EGA or VGA).
  21. ORDER.FRM    The Mathomatic order form.
  22. README        This file.

  24. To run the tutorial, type in "amtutor" at the DOS prompt.  If you have
  25. a color computer and you have the "ANSI.SYS" driver loaded, you can see
  26. how Mathomatic works in color by typing "amtutor -c" at the DOS prompt.
  27. In color mode, Mathomatic outputs ANSI escape sequences to make each level
  28. of parentheses a different color.  To execute the limited version of
  29. Mathomatic, select it from the tutorial main menu.

  31. In color mode, Mathomatic changes the default color on your screen to green.
  32. The procedure for running ANSI programs without changing the default color
  33. is contained in the Mathomatic manual, which is only available to registered
  34. users.

  36. You must have at least 640K of memory in your computer to run Mathomatic.
  37. Mathomatic runs on all IBM-PC and IBM-PC/AT compatibles with the MS-DOS
  38. operating system.  The Mathomatic "graph" command requires EGA or VGA
  39. and MS-DOS version 3.0 or higher.  A math coprocessor is recommended and
  40. always used if available.

  42. The number of equation spaces and the equation size are limited in this
  43. limited version of Mathomatic.

  45. Mathomatic is written in Microsoft C V5.1, is self-testing, and strictly
  46. follows the rules of algebra.  Mathomatic is powerful enough for users
  47. to check their answers/solutions, making it the most reliable math program
  48. available!

  52. Registered users get the full sized version of Mathomatic with hardcopy
  53. manual and prime number tools.  The full sized version has more equation spaces
  54. and allows equations four times larger than the limited version allows.
  55. And it can be executed directly from the DOS command line.

  57. To become a registered user and get the full sized version of Mathomatic,
  58. please do the following:

  60.   1) Print the file "ORDER.FRM".  At the DOS prompt, type: PRINT ORDER.FRM
  61.   2) Fill it out.
  62.   3) Make out a check or money order payable to "George Gesslein II".
  63.      It must be in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank.
  64.      A single user registration costs $49.95.
